Success, Yes. Souvenirs, No.
The first week of my challenge I will deem a great success. I visited Asheville for a couple of days with Mark. It was an amazing getaway to connect and prepare for the year ahead together. We had an awesome time at the Salt Cave and the Sauna House (awesome may not be how I would truly describe my first experience in the cold plunge if I'm honest). We walked through the town and all of the cute little shops. I think that my ability to say no to the beautiful crystals and artsy things that Asheville has to offer with ease had a lot to do with being there a week after Christmas when all of our new things had not even been put away. Nevertheless, still a success as only services were consumed because when I asked “But do you need it” there was a resounding “NO!” in reply.
Bookstore
My other success was that today my youngest went to a birthday party and took a gift that did not arrive on my doorstep. I went to the locally owned Park Road Books and picked out two puzzle / activity books. I did not find it easy to pick a gift for a girl I don’t know, but that would not have been different clicking around on Amazon. It really did feel thoughtful to thumb through the books and debate which she would enjoy most. The struggle was that I LOVE books and have seen so many posts recently of readers’ favorites of 2022 so getting out
of there without an extra was more far more challenging. The answer to the question will undoubtedly be “YES” for books throughout the year, but I am 10 deep in books that are 'next up', so on this day the “No” was soft but firm.
Accountability Check
Things I said “YES” to this week that are definitely not needs and were purchased online:
Organifi Sunrise to Sunset Kit. I was out of my green juice blend and kits were 30% off so even though I didn’t need red and gold YET, I do use both so this was an easy YES.
(I highly recommend their products – super delicious way to add nutrition throughout the day AND I have listened to their CEO Mae Stigler on several podcasts and love the company and how they operate)
LMNT Electrolytes. I have not used them so don’t have a recommendation but received a recommendation and am excited to try to amp up my hydration (and make my water consumption a little more interesting).
